In the immediate aftermath of the United States’ high-impact airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, the US Secretary of State delivered a resolute message to Tehran: “Any retaliatory action will be met with overwhelming force.” This warning, issued during a televised statement late Sunday night, underscores Washington’s commitment to preventing further escalation in the Middle East conflict zone.
The Secretary of State emphasized that the United States’ actions were preemptive and necessary, designed to “safeguard regional and global security” in response to credible intelligence regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities and its expanding influence through regional proxies.
The US's top diplomat did not mince words. Any attack—whether directly from Tehran or via its allied militias in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, or Yemen—would be considered an act of war, triggering a “decisive and disproportionate” American response. He clarified that while the US does not seek a prolonged conflict, it will not hesitate to use its full military capacity if provoked.
The statement follows the deployment of B-2 bombers and the use of Massive Ordnance Penetrators (commonly known as “bunker busters”) on Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility—an action Tehran has described as an “act of aggression.”
In the same briefing, the Secretary called on key regional allies—Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates—to maintain high security alert levels and prevent Iran from using neighboring territories to launch counterattacks. Israel, a critical US partner in the region, has reportedly elevated its national defense status amid fears of Iranian missile retaliation.
The US is also said to have initiated emergency consultations with NATO and UN Security Council members in anticipation of Iran’s response.
While Tehran has condemned the strikes, it has not formally announced its next course of action. Iranian leadership is said to be weighing a response that avoids full-scale war but still signals defiance. Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces remain on high alert, and intelligence services globally are monitoring troop movements and missile deployments closely.
As diplomatic cables fly between capitals, international markets reacted sharply. Crude oil prices spiked overnight, and stock indexes across Europe and Asia opened lower amid investor anxiety. Meanwhile, humanitarian organizations are bracing for potential refugee surges if a broader war erupts.
