The 2025 Digital Sovereignty Summit, slated for June 3, promises to upend everything we think we know about the internet, centralization, and the role of artificial intelligence. While technically a nod to the fourth anniversary of the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), this year’s gathering is more manifesto than milestone. The origin story goes back to a now-famous tweet from Dominic Williams, a blockchain visionary who planted the seeds for what would later become the Internet Computer. His dream? A world where traditional IT is rendered obsolete, and the entire web exists on a tamper-proof blockchain, autonomously managed through code that rewrites and perfects itself over time.
Now, that dream is no longer theoretical.
With over 500 projects launched, including decentralized finance tools, social platforms, NFT marketplaces, and infrastructure frameworks, the ecosystem has transformed from a disruptive idea into a legitimate contender for the internet’s next chapter.
The summit is divided into two thematic arenas:
The World Computer Stage will dig deep into provocative ideas. Topics like “The Age of Digital Colonialism” and “Who Owns Intelligence?” promise to interrogate the political, economic, and existential implications of autonomous tech.
The Ecosystem Stage offers the hands-on contrast: project pitches, software demonstrations, and deep dives into real-world applications of the self-writing Internet. From DePIN (decentralized physical infrastructure networks) to sovereign AI, builders will showcase technologies designed to operate independently of traditional gatekeepers.
One of the most exciting storylines emerging from the summit is Africa’s growing role in shaping this new internet order. With ICP Hubs spread across the continent, African developers, researchers, and startups are proving that decentralized tools can offer real-world solutions in underserved regions.
