The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially confirmed that a Ksh1,000 fee is applicable for all inter-institutional transfer applications. Though not a new policy, the clarification comes in response to growing concerns among students and parents questioning the legitimacy and necessity of the charge.
The placement body emphasized that no one should be conned into paying more than this stated amount. The fee must be paid strictly through the government’s official payment system—eCitizen—and KUCCPS has warned against unauthorized payments or unofficial middlemen.
KUCCPS has defended the fee as a processing charge—not a penalty, not a bribe. According to the placement service, the Ksh1,000 covers a range of logistical and administrative functions:
-Verification of transfer reasons
-Review of course eligibility based on student cut-off points
-Coordination between institutions
-System maintenance and staff support
-Timely delivery of outcomes within 14 working days
In essence, this is not just a casual switch. Every application demands attention to detail, system support, and formal approval from multiple institutional actors. The fee offsets that operational burden.
KUCCPS has officially opened the 2025 inter-institutional transfer window, which runs from July 14 to August 12. Students dissatisfied with their current placement or interested in relocating to a different institution can now initiate the process through the KUCCPS Student Portal.
Importantly, KUCCPS allows for the possibility of maintaining the same course while changing institutions—as long as the applicant meets the new university's cut-off point for that specific program.
In a bold move of inclusivity, KUCCPS has stated that the ongoing transfer window is not only for students who sat for their KCSE in 2024, but is also open to 2023 candidates who received placement and wish to reconsider their institutional choices.
Those who were never placed in the first place are encouraged to reach out directly to KUCCPS by email, providing their KCSE index number and year of examination for placement support.
KUCCPS has made it abundantly clear: the only valid fee is Ksh1,000. Any demand for additional charges should raise red flags. Students and parents should deal directly through official portals and never share login details or personal data with third parties.
This announcement follows rising concern from the public about rumors of arbitrary or inflated charges, and the body is keen on safeguarding students from exploitation.
