Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a strong warning to public servants who engage in political activism while in office. He condemned the use of derogatory nicknames for President William Ruto, such as "Kasongo," and the chanting of anti-government slogans like "one term."
According to Murkomen, such behavior is considered unconstitutional and could result in immediate dismissal from public service.
Murkomen stressed that public servants, including security officers, are expected to remain politically neutral and focus on implementing government policies. He pointed out that civil servants take an oath to uphold the Constitution and serve the government of the day, regardless of political opinions.
While political neutrality is required in service, Murkomen clarified that public officers are free to participate in democratic processes like elections. However, he warned that campaigning, sloganeering, or any form of public political expression while holding office would not be tolerated.
Murkomen also addressed the spread of controversial remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He criticized the circulation of these comments on social media, suggesting they could fuel political tension and threaten national security.
The CS urged Kenyans to refrain from amplifying content that could destabilize the country. He expressed concern that the ongoing dissemination of provocative statements, especially those involving sensitive national matters, could lead to unrest.
