The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced scheduled system maintenance that will affect electricity supply across seven counties on Thursday, August 21. The planned outage, which is expected to last up to ten hours in some areas, will begin at 7 am.
In Nairobi, parts of Westlands will be affected between 7 am and 5 pm. Areas include General Mathenge, Peponi Road, Peponi Gardens, Spring Valley Road, Peponi Cliff, Donyo Sabuk, Pine Wood Apartments, sections of Eldama Ravine Road, and surrounding customers.
In Kisumu, the outage will affect Sondu and its environs from 8:30 am to 5 pm. This includes Kandaria, Ingutsi Primary, Ingutsi Centre, Ngege Primary, Maraboi Water, Chabera, and nearby areas.
In Tharaka Nithi, power will be off in Igambangombe and Ntumbara between 8:30 am and 5 pm. Specific locations include Kamatanka Market, Mpangua Village, Igambangombe, Kamaindi Market, and surrounding communities.
In Murang’a, the interruption will take place in Gatanga from 9 am to 5 pm. Affected areas include Githingiri Estate, Thika Green Estate, Mugumo Farm, Mugumo Police, Carton Manufacturer, Bahati Farm, Jowaki Estate, KARI Thika Memorial Hospital, and neighboring households.
In Meru, residents of Ntugi, Kiirua, and Gitoro will experience power cuts between 8 am and 5 pm. The wide coverage includes ATC Tower-Kiborione, Kiirua Mission Hospital, Meru National Polytechnic, Consolata Mission Hospital Gitoro, Safaricom BTS Makutano, and other listed institutions, hotels, and residential areas.
Two main zones in Kiambu will be affected. From 9 am to 5 pm, Ndumboini and Uthiru (including UON Kabete Vet, Uthiru Girls, and Njathaini) will face outages. In Juja along Mangu Road, the blackout will cover multiple estates, farms, schools such as St. Francis Mangu Girls and Maryhill Girls, as well as several markets and residential zones.
In Kilifi, the outage will occur in Marafa and Sabaki between 9 am and 5 pm. Areas include Mambrui Town, KBC Marekebuni, Marafa, Garashi, Karibuni Villas, Beach Bay, Mwembe Resort, Savannah, Mijikenda Residence, Angels Bay, Sabaki, and nearby customers.
KPLC has urged affected customers in the seven counties to make prior arrangements ahead of the planned power maintenance. The outages are part of the company’s ongoing efforts to improve electricity reliability and strengthen the distribution network.
