The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a cautionary five-day weather forecast warning of cold conditions, intermittent showers, and strong winds across several parts of the country. The advisory, released on July 31, affects both inland and coastal regions, urging residents to prepare for varying conditions.
The Central Highlands, parts of the East and West Rift Valley, and the South-eastern lowlands are expected to remain cloudy with light rainfall, especially in the mornings. Areas such as Nairobi, Nyeri, and Embu will experience low nighttime temperatures, ranging from 6°C to 11°C, with daytime highs between 26°C and 27°C.
Regions west of the Rift Valley and around the Lake Victoria Basin, including Kisumu, Kakamega, and Nakuru, are forecast to receive afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures in these areas may rise to 31°C, offering some relief between the rainy spells.
The Met Department has flagged southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (approximately 46 km/h) in the Coastal region, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya. This includes areas such as Garissa, Wajir, Turkana, and Lamu.
Mariners and coastal communities are advised to be vigilant, as these wind speeds may pose risks to marine activities, lightweight structures, and travel.

In North-eastern Kenya, covering Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera, weather conditions will remain sunny and dry throughout the week. Daytime temperatures are projected to soar to 35°C, making it one of the hottest regions in the forecast period.
While generally sunny, Turkana and Samburu counties may experience occasional showers starting Sunday. Daytime highs are also expected to reach up to 35°C, though temperatures may vary slightly depending on altitude.
Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Lamu counties are likely to see light rainfall in the mornings and afternoons in the early part of the week. Temperatures will stay between 20°C and 30°C, with humid and cloudy intervals expected.
Counties such as Machakos, Kitui, and Kajiado will experience cloudy mornings and sunny afternoons, with temperatures ranging from 30°C to 31°C. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to afternoon heat.
The Kenya Meteorological Department urges residents, especially those in high-altitude areas, to dress warmly, as temperatures are expected to drop sharply at night. In addition, those in wind-prone zones and coastal communities are advised to take precautions against potential disruptions to transport and livelihoods.
With changing weather patterns expected between August 1 and August 5, the Met Department continues to monitor the evolving conditions and will issue updates as necessary. Members of the public are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and adhere to safety guidelines to reduce weather-related risks.
