Kisii County has been rocked by one of the most horrific domestic crimes in recent memory. Stephen Onserio, a 50-year-old man from the Sungubo area of Nyamache, was burned to death by irate villagers after he confessed to killing his wife, mutilating her body, and allegedly feeding the cooked remains to his own children. The act sent shockwaves through the village and beyond, triggering mob justice that culminated in his violent death.
Police reports reveal that Onserio was not new to violence. He had previously been arrested in connection with the murder of his first wife in 2007 but was later released in circumstances that remain unclear. The community, aware of his troubled past, had long harbored suspicions about his behavior, describing him as cruel and dangerous.
His second wife's sudden disappearance raised alarms. When confronted by villagers about her whereabouts, he reportedly admitted to killing her and led them to the site of the gruesome crime. Upon arriving at his home, locals discovered what were believed to be body parts of the missing woman.
What horrified the community even further was the disturbing revelation that Onserio had allegedly cooked parts of the victim’s body and fed them to his children. In an even more disturbing twist, he was also accused of impregnating one of his daughters, who has since been rescued and placed under the protection of local residents.
Such monstrous acts ignited an immediate and furious reaction. The villagers beat him before setting his body on fire, claiming they could not risk allowing a man with such a history of repeated violence to walk free again.
This case raises serious concerns about the justice system's role in releasing a man previously charged with spousal murder. The fact that Onserio had returned to the community without proper monitoring has left residents demanding accountability. Many are questioning how a man capable of such depravity had managed to reintegrate into society without red flags triggering intervention.
Local law enforcement, led by Nyamache OCPD Kipkulei Kipkemoi, confirmed the man’s past offenses and acknowledged the community’s longstanding distrust. “In 2007, he killed his first wife; that’s why the community had their suspicions,” said the OCPD. Investigators are now working to confirm the identity of the remains found at his home and ensure the children involved receive proper medical and psychological care.
